PTE Academic Reading Tips

The second section of PTE Academic is Reading. It consists of 5 types of questions. This story will explore those 5 questions with tips for each one.

Multiple Choice, Choose Single Answer

  • A text and a question alongside it will be given. There is only one correct answer.
  • Skimming and scanning are important throughout the reading section as time management is the key.
  • Read the question first to get an idea about what you are looking for.
  • Apply the elimination method if you are confused between options.

Multiple Choice, Choose Multiple Answers

  • A text and a question alongside it will be given. There are more than one correct answers.
  • Read the question and then the passage. Tick all the answer you think are correct.
  • Choose your answer wisely as negative marking is applicable here. The minimum marks are still zero.

Re-Order Paragraphs

  • Several sentences will be arranged in random order. You have to arrange it in the correct order so that they form a meaningful paragraph.
  • Look for the main idea, it will probably be the first line.
  • The sentences starting with ‘he’, ‘she’, ‘they’, etc. is not going to be the first line.
  • Read the paragraph once arranged to make sure your order is correct.

Reading: Fill In the Blanks

  • A paragraph with some missing words is given. Words in boxes below it will be provided. Choose these words to fit the appropriate blank.
  • Choose the word that ‘sounds’ right with the sentence
  • Your word should fit in grammatically in the sentence.

Reading & Writing: Fill In the Blanks

  • A paragraph with some missing words is given. Words are provided as a drop-down list when you click the blank.
  • There are different word options for every blank so it might be a little more challenging.
  • The overall meaning of paragraph will help you choose correct words so skim & scan!
